Silk Road

The Silk Road is the most important ancient trade route and cultural artery connecting the East and the West, as well as one of the largest and most influential cross-border exchange systems in human history. Originating in the Han Dynasty and pioneered by Zhang Qian’s missions to the Western Regions, it was named the “Silk Road” because Chinese silk and other commodities were traded widely along this ancient passage to overseas regions.

Starting from the ancient Chinese capitals of Chang’an and Luoyang, the Silk Road stretched through the Hexi Corridor and the Western Regions, crossing Central Asia and West Asia, and finally reaching Europe and North Africa. Along this long historic corridor, not only goods such as silk, tea, porcelain, spices and jewelry were exchanged, but also technologies, arts, religions, languages and folk cultures between the East and the West were deeply integrated, enabling mutual learning and win‑win communication among civilizations.

For thousands of years, the Silk Road has embodied the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit. It has witnessed friendly exchanges among different nations, races and civilizations. In modern times, the ancient Silk Road has regained new vitality. It serves as a fundamental historical foundation for global connectivity, international cooperation and shared development, continuously promoting harmonious coexistence and progress of diverse civilizations across the world.
